Tieng-Ying Hsiang
PhD
Senior Scientist
Research Staff
Dr. Hsiang earned her B.V.M. degree from National Taiwan University and became a board-certified veterinarian in Taiwan. She then joined the M.S. program of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Southern California and later received her Ph.D. in Virology and Molecular Biology from the University of Texas at Austin. Her Ph.D. research primarily focused on the effects of post-translational modifications on the influenza virulent factor NS1A protein. In 2013, she joined the University of Washington, where she studied the pathogen-associated molecular pattern of RNA viruses that activate the RIG-I-like receptors and induce innate immune responses. Dr. Hsiang is an expert in emerging virus diseases and molecular biology and has led multiple projects evaluating the efficacy of novel antiviral compounds and vaccines. In the Cancer Vaccine Institute, Dr. Hsiang leads the Immunologic Monitoring Laboratory, dedicated to measuring immune responses in clinical trial samples to determine the cancer vaccine efficacy and developing novel assays to measure immunity.
