Dr. Disis featured on Mayo Clinic podcast Tomorrow’s Cure

“There’s an army of scientists trying to figure this out, but we need a citizen army,” says Dr. Nora Disis. “So be part of our team, be part of the process, and then we can get to the end of this disease quicker.”

CVI Director Dr. Disis was featured on Tomorrow's Cure, a Mayo Clinic podcast, speaking on the challenge of volunteer recruitment in clinical trials. Less than 10% of cancer patients enroll in clinical trials, but a clinical trial is a choice — a choice be in an experiment, she said. So, what can we do to make people feel confident and taken care of in this choice, she asked.

Alongside cancer vaccine researchers Dr. Keith Knutson and Dr. Saranya Chumsri of the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Disis discusses what scientists can do better in communicating and ensuring patients feel safe and confident in clinical trials. They each also tell their stories of how they got into breast cancer research and the latest innovations in the field.
